What’s in the apprenticeship standard?
Once you have achieved the Senior Procurement and Supply Chain Professional you will be in a strong position to make a real impact as a leader in procurement and supply. Additionally, if you meet all the criteria you may be eligible to apply for MCIPS membership. Those with MCIPS are recognised world-wide by employers as competent and confident professionals.
Who is it for?
This level 6 apprenticeship is designed to elevate those in the profession to a strategic leadership role in small, medium and large enterprises. Ultimately meeting all of the requirements, candidates may be eligible to apply for MCIPS membership.
Typical job roles can include:
- Head of Procurement and Supply Chain
- Supply Chain Manager
- Senior Buyer

Entry requirements
Whilst any entry requirements will be a matter for individual employers, typically an apprentice might be expected to have already achieved GCSE Maths and English on entry.
An individual will have also gained successful completion of the CIPS Level 5 Advanced Diploma in Procurement and Supply before they can start this apprenticeship.
What you will learn
30 months on programme learning consists of:
- CIPS L6 Professional Diploma (exl. research module L6M4)
- Portfolio of evidence any requested policies and procedures
Gateway criteria consists of:
Employers must confirm the apprentice's excellence as a senior procurement and supply chain professional, including meeting all qualifications outlined in the ST0811 standard.
The qualification(s) required are:
- Module L6M1 L6M2 L6M3 + 3 optional modules towards CIPS Level 6 Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply. (Not L6M4 research module).
- Portfolio of evidence any requested policies and procedures
Typically, 4 months of end point assessments consists of:
- Presentation with questions
- Professional discussion underpinned by portfolio of evidence
- Case study test

Duration
The apprenticeship will typically take up to 30 months to complete, with a minimum 12 months on programme duration - this can vary depending on your training provider and level of experience.
