Why have an apprenticeship programme?

Develop your future talent and organisation's growth by bringing people into the procurement and supply chain profession. For the apprentice, it's important to learn on the job and have the right training linked to academic standards. You as the employer can benefit from this and it can be applied into day-to-day procurement operations.

Applying for an apprenticeship?

Stop by stop guidance for employers

  • Firstly, talk to an approved training provider and work closely with your chosen provider about your requirements and what programmes they can offer. Find apprenticeship training providers.
  • Identify and recruit suitable applicants and follow the government led guidance about how to take on an apprentice.
  • Your apprentice must be able to undertake real, productive work within your organisation to develop, practice, and provide evidence of their knowledge and skills to meet the Standard.
  • Apprentices must be allowed to attend external off-the-job training and assessments as part of their paid working hours.
  • Be prepared to work closely with your apprentice and training provider and review progress.
  • Your training provider should advise you about choosing an end-point assessment organisation (EPAO) and contract with them on your behalf.
  • Apprentices must be employed for the full duration of their apprenticeship (including the time required for the end-point assessment).
  • Your training provider will talk to you about what’s in the Standard.
  • There is a gateway or minimum entry criteria and you will be asked to confirm that the apprentice is occupationally competent according to the Standard.
  • The gov.uk website also provides a step by step approach to hiring an apprentice, including how to get a grant, pay and conditions for apprentices and finding training agencies.

Apprentice End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO)

Firstly, make sure you talk to an approved apprenticeship training provider about the types of programmes they can offer. Currently, the CIPS Level 3 Advanced Certificate, CIPS Level 4 Diploma or CIPS Level 6 Professional Diploma (exl. research module L6M4) qualifications are mandatory elements for each standard. It's important that your training provider has the capability to help you achieve this by offering a high quality learning programme.

Email: epa@cips.org or speak to your chosen training provider for more information about contracting with us as your EPAO.
