Exam options for you to consider

All our exams are computer-based and you can choose to take your exams at an exam centre or remotely.

If you're registered for a learning programme with one of our approved study centres, your exam bookings are taken care of.

If you're self-studying, or on CIPS OnDemand learning programme you can now read our exam schedule, work out the cost and locate your nearest exam centre or choose remote invigilation.

Prepare for your exam in 3 easy steps

1. Choose

Decide how you want to take your exam. If you prefer to take your exams remotely simply choose that option when making your booking. If you prefer to go to an exam centre, use our global centre finder to locate your nearest CIPS exam centre. Studying with us is completley flexible, so it's up to you to decide what option works for you.

2.Plan

Decide when you want to take your next exam. We won't set a start or end date, simply take your exams when you feel ready and confident. We host exams five times a year, March, May, July, September and November. Check our exam schedule to explore all available exam dates.

3. Book

Booking and paying for your exams online is the fastest and easiest way to secure your place. For our Objective Response exam format (OR) you can choose any of the three available timeslots on any day during the OR exam week. Our Constructed Response exam format (CR) exams are scheduled at set times and dates, and everyone takes these exams at the same local time. Online exam bookings are live, so your place is confirmed as soon as you book

Exam formats

Objective Response (OR)

OR exams are graded as:

  • Pass mark 70%

Constructed Response (CR)

CR exams are graded as:

  • 50% Pass
  • 60% Merit
  • 75% Distinction

Exam question formats

In OR exams questions you will select a response from a list of possible answers. You will find these types of exams across all our qualifications.

In CR exam questions, you'll be expected to create or construct your answer in an essay style or case study style. You'll find this format of exam in our Diploma level qualifications.
