The first official CIPS Caribbean Connect gathering
30 June 2025
This week we kicked off the first official CIPS Caribbean Connect gatherings, under the leadership of Savita Mace FCIPS where over 80 senior procurement and supply chain leaders came together across Guyana and Trinidad to shape the future of the profession. Accompanied by more than 100 bright, enthusiastic students, these events weren't just meetings, they were milestones.
"It’s rare to see such alignment of passion, purpose, and potential in one space", said Daniel Devaux, CPO at Shell. The conversations were rich, honest, and forward-looking. From the outset, it was clear that the leaders in the room shared a collective hunger not just for progress, but for transformation. There’s a deep recognition that procurement has the power to drive economic development, build resilient supply chains, and unlock opportunities for innovation across the Caribbean.
Raising the Bar: A Regional Movement Begins
One of the most inspiring themes running through the events was the unwavering commitment to raise the standard of procurement practice across the region. Senior leaders voiced a strong desire to harmonise processes, collaborate intentionally, and align with global standards which they've said will start with the adoption and promotion of CIPS qualifications. CIPS is not just seen as a badge of credibility, but as a tool to foster a more capable and confident workforce.
In Guyana, in particular, the sense of pride was palpable. Leaders spoke powerfully about the importance of investing in local talent and using procurement as a force for social mobility.
A Community Rooted in Accountability and Mentorship
Perhaps the most moving part of the CIPS Caribbean Connect sessions was the open-hearted commitment from senior professionals to give back. Many stepped up to volunteer their time to mentor emerging talent, offer work shadowing opportunities, speak in schools, and support apprenticeship pathways. This is more than CSR, it’s a cultural shift where procurement leaders are taking personal accountability for nurturing the next generation.
This is the Caribbean at its best: united, ambitious, and generous in spirit.
Students as the Heartbeat of the Future
The presence of over 100 students brought an entirely different kind of energy to the room, we saw curiosity, boldness, and great ideas. Their questions were sharp, their enthusiasm contagious. It’s clear they’re ready to step into roles that demand both technical capability and ethical leadership.
By connecting students directly with industry leaders, CIPS Caribbean Connect has done more than inspire, it has built bridges that can shape career journeys, elevate regional standards, and accelerate inclusive growth.
