25 students are awarded new bursaries to help achieve their career goals
CIPS Foundation has funded students facing financial difficulties for many years by providing free access to exams and study guides. This year a new pilot scheme was co-developed with 4 CIPS Study Centres to provide tutor-led learning programmes for 25 students.
The new programme provides teaching and learning, tutoring and revision materials for all learners kindly offered free of charge by accredited CIPS Study Centres. Samantha Banda, one of the students awarded a bursary this year, expresses: "The CIPS Foundation Bursary has changed my life for the better. I am so grateful to be amongst the chosen. Kudos to CIPS for giving back to the community".
CIPS Foundation Lead
“The self-study bursary previously offered to CIPS students didn’t offer enough support and many students were dropping out of the scheme or failing exams time and time again. We knew our learners would benefit from a tutor-led programme and our centres have provided this missing link.”
We received almost 200 applications for a bursary from over 25 countries and 5 continents. Applications were assessed against a set of criteria and financial status to ensure those most in need got the right support.
While the CIPS Foundation funds exams, study resources and membership, 4 accredited CIPS Study Centres have stepped forward to help make this pilot possible, by providing teaching, tutoring and revision support at no cost to learners.
Colin McIntyre, Director, Lean Procurement Ltd says "We believe that education and professional development should be as accessible as possible, regardless of someone’s circumstances. I’ve benefited from support with my own education in the past, so I know personally what a difference having that opportunity can make. We’re extremely pleased to be in a position where we can now give something back by supporting learners through the Foundation and helping others access opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach."
Similarly, Laura Scarfe from the Business Academy Online, states: “Education has the power to change lives. Supporting the CIPS Foundation allows us to help remove barriers to learning and give more people the opportunity to build a career in procurement, regardless of their circumstances. It’s something we’re incredibly proud to support.”
Beth Seagar, Curriculum Director at ABA Procurement says “We wanted to support the CIPS Foundation bursaries because we see first-hand how the CIPS qualifications enhance the sustainability, resilience and strength of supply chains worldwide. We can't wait to start the programme and see how those students enhance not only their supply chains, but by sharing their experience, those of the other students in the class as well.”
Beth Cunningham from CIPS Business & Commercial Manager Chamber Business Training recognises: “that financial barriers can prevent talented individuals from accessing qualifications and career opportunities, and we're proud to play a small part in helping these students develop valuable skills and achieve their ambitions. We hope the pilot will demonstrate the positive impact that widening access to learning can have on individuals, communities and future employers.”
Finally, Ian Schollar, Head of Teaching & Learning at CIPS Business Study Centres, adds: “I've seen first-hand how the right support can boost professional confidence. Financial circumstances shouldn't stand in the way of someone's potential. By helping learners access education and build their skills, we can make a difference to their careers, the organisations they work for and their communities. I'm really proud to be part of this project and can't wait to welcome our new learners.”
The pilot scheme will track students’ progress over the next two years after which we hope to expand the scheme in partnership with additional centres to offer even more opportunities to learners to excel in their procurement career.
